The Wonderful Diapontia Islands
During your stay in Corfu it is worth making a trip to the wonderful Diapontia islands. The Diapontia Islands is an archipelago of 11 islands, consisting of three larger islands the Mathraki, Erikousa and Othonoi islands and some other islets.
Like Corfu, the Diapontia islands have been conquered by many people since ancient times! Franks, Venetians, Turks and the English were some of them. The English at the 18th century occupied the islands and sick soldiers were sent there to recover due to the good climate.
According to mythology, in antiquity, the Othonoi were the island of the nymph Calypso, who lived in a large cave. Odysseus fell in love with her and remained there as a prisoner for seven years.

In Othonoi there are over 15 settlements with about 10-20 houses each of them. At the northeastern end, at Cape Kastri, at an altitude of 100m, near the ruins of the Venetian fortress there is the lighthouse of the island. Built in 1872, it has a height of 13m.
Erikousa island is one of the smallest islands and has unique pristine sandy beaches. One of the most beautiful places of the island is “Pera Katergo” where the view becomes wilder. Pera Katergo, is the only part of the island covered with stone, a valuable raw material for the needs of the island of the last century. Swim on the coast of Braggini, and enjoy its wonderful waters and admire the vegetation that covers the landscape as a whole.
In Mathraki there are many settlements that are connected by picturesque paths. Notable places are Fyki bay, Trachia islet, the old port with the picturesque settlement and Apides with the small port for fishing boats.
You can visit all the islands either from the port of Agios Stefanos, from Sidari but also from the city of Corfu!
